{"id":3603,"date":"2016-12-03T14:27:16","date_gmt":"2016-12-03T14:27:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bar-ziv.co.il\/%d7%94%d7%97%d7%9c%d7%a4%d7%94-%d7%97%d7%9c%d7%a7%d7%99%d7%aa-%d7%a9%d7%9c-%d7%9e%d7%a4%d7%a8%d7%a7-%d7%94%d7%91%d7%a8%d7%9a\/"},"modified":"2017-05-11T08:11:23","modified_gmt":"2017-05-11T08:11:23","slug":"unicondilarunicompartmental-knee-replacement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bar-ziv.co.il\/en\/unicondilarunicompartmental-knee-replacement\/","title":{"rendered":"Unicondylar \/ unicompartmental knee replacement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Unicondylar \/ <\/b><b>unicompartmental knee replacement<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a small percentage of the patients, the osteoarthritis is located in only one section of the knee (one compartment).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In these cases, we can perform a partial replacement of the joint.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The advantages of this method <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in comparison to a full replacement<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Faster rehabilitation<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Less loss of blood during and after the surgery<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Less pain during the period of recuperation from the surgery<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Better ranges of bending<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition, patients report a more \u201cnatural\u201d feeling after the surgery, the joint is accepted by the body more quickly, and it is possible that the reason is the preservation of the healthy section and the ligaments in the second compartment.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Disadvantages<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Less pain relief in the long term.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additional surgery might be required (if, for instance, osteoarthritis develops in the healthy compartment of the knee).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>The surgery<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The surgical incision for a partial replacement is shorter than for a full replacement, and is located along the knee, more in the direction of the inner section.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the surgery, Dr. Bar Ziv will review the three compartments of the knee (inner, outer and patellofemoral), he will make sure that the disease is indeed limited to one compartment, and that there is no tear in the ligaments. In the event that the knee is not stable, Dr. Bar Ziv will decide, during the surgery, to carry out a complete replacement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If the knee is suited to a partial replacement, the damaged surfaces of the cartilage, will be removed with the help of a special sw.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The surfaces of the cartilage will be replaced by metal plates, made of an alloy called cobalt \u2013 chromium.
